Basics.

Smart groups behave the same as normal groups except instead of adding/removing files manually the group files are managed automatically (synched) using a set of search critera.

After setting the search critera files in the desktop will be automatically synched to and from smart group when files are changed in the desktop. Rememebr that if a desktop contains smart groups and some files don't appear visible in the desktop they may be part of a smart group.

Although files can't be removed from a smart group manually you can drag files to containers which will effectively remove them.

Note: files that are part of another group or container will not be added to smart groups.

Creating Groups.

In the File menu choose the New Smart Group item which will create a new empty group on the desktop. You must set search critera before the smart group will contain any items.

Editing Critera.

To edit a smart groups critera contextual click on the icon and choose Edit Smart Group... or if the group is empty simply double-click the icon.

Search critera includes:

Ungrouping.

If you want to remove all items from the group and remove the group from the desktop you can ungroup the files by contextual clicking on the icon and choosing Ungroup from the popup menu.

Deleting.

You can also remove the group and move all files to the trash by contextual clicking on the icon and choosing Delete Group from the popup menu. You will be prompted to confirm before any files are deleted.
