Desktops preferences are explained in the table below.
- Stack style: The image style of stacks as they apply to folders and groups.
- Container style: The style of containers which are drawn on the desktop.
- Spring loaded folder delay: While hovering the mouse over a folder during drag and drop this is the delay it takes before the folder (or group) opens.
- Maximum items per desktop: The maximum number of files that can be shown on the desktop (additional files will be hidden and a badge to indicate this will appear over the desktop)
- Object animation duration: The animation speed for various file icon animations (or 0 to disable animations).
- Desktop transition duration: The speed at which desktop transition animations occur (or 0 to disable animations).
- Show group item count badge: Draws a badge over groups which specify the number of files in the group.
- Show contextual help tags while dragging: During drag and drop operations tags appear over the desktop/icons to explain the action.
- Show all folders as stacks: When folders are created they are specified as a stack by default.
- Drag documents to folder animations: When files are moved to a folder they will display an animation.
- Fade documents animation: Show fading animations when files are added to the desktop.
- Open stacks in Finder: Instead of opening stacks in a popup window they open in the Finder like normal folders.
- Remember item positions based on display: The position of files on the desktop will be remembered based on which display is currently in use (i.e. it's possible for an icon to be in 2 places depending on the display connected to your Mac).
These settings apply to new desktops when they are created and can be changed later by changing the deskops options.
- Data Folder: The location of the .acdesktops file which contains settings on all desktops (not including the actual files on your Mac). Only change this if you need to sync your desktops across multiple Macs using DropBox or other services.
